You can add StableDomains to ChatGPT as a custom connector (a remote MCP server). ChatGPT can then search names, quote prices and hand you a checkout link from inside a chat.
Before you start
- Custom connectors need ChatGPT developer mode, which depends on your plan and workspace settings. Menu names can change; check OpenAI's help pages if yours look different.
- Which URL to use:
- Directory-safe (recommended for ChatGPT):
https://stabledomains.net/api/mcp/discover. Search, quotes, suggestions, WHOIS, DNS and support tools, with no ordering or payment tools. Purchases come back as a checkout link that you pay yourself. This is the URL listed in connector directories. - Full buying:
https://stabledomains.net/api/mcp. Everything above plus ordering and payment tools, for agents that buy domains for you. Use it with a spend cap.
Steps
- In ChatGPT, open Settings → Apps & Connectors → Advanced settings and turn on Developer mode.
- Back in Apps & Connectors, choose Create (or Add custom connector).
- Name it
StableDomainsand paste the server URL. - For authentication choose OAuth. Leave client ID and secret empty: StableDomains supports dynamic client registration, so ChatGPT registers itself.
- Save, then sign in to StableDomains in the window that opens and approve access. Search and quotes also work before you sign in.
- In a new chat, enable the connector from the tools menu and ask: "Is myidea.com available on StableDomains, and what does it cost?"
Staying in control
ChatGPT can't pay by card on its own. It shows you a quote and a checkout link, and you pay. Set a monthly spend cap and use a scoped key if you connect the full server. See how purchases are kept safe.
FAQ
Do I need a StableDomains account? Not for search and quotes. Sign in through the connector to manage domains you own.
Which URL should I use? Use /api/mcp/discover for directory-safe use with no buying tools, or /api/mcp for full buying.
