Not yet, at least not as a real internet domain. As of 29 October 2026, .agent is not in the DNS root. Nobody can register a working .agent domain today, from any registrar.

Where ICANN .agent stands
ICANN's 2026 new gTLD round took applications from 30 April to 12 August 2026 and published them on Reveal Day, 7 October 2026. The string "agent" has several competing applications, including from Google (Charleston Road Registry), OpenAI, Meta Registry Holdings and Open Agent Registry (a community application). All were listed as Active, in Pre-Evaluation Processing.
What happens next:
- String Confirmation Day is 17 November 2026.
- Community input and objections run until 16 March 2027.
- Then come evaluation, contention resolution (possibly an auction, since several parties applied), contracting and delegation.
New TLDs from past rounds took years to go from application to launch. Even after delegation, the winning registry decides who may register and when. A brand applicant might keep .agent for itself.
So anyone selling you an ICANN ".agent" domain today is selling a pre-registration or a promise, not a domain.
What about Handshake .agent?
Some services sell ".agent" names on Handshake, a blockchain naming system. These are not ICANN domains. Ordinary browsers, email servers and DNS resolvers can't see them unless you install special resolvers or use a gateway. For an AI agent that needs a website, an email address, an OAuth redirect or a webhook URL that works everywhere, a Handshake name won't resolve for most of the internet.
What to register instead
Buy a real ICANN domain that works today in every browser and mail server. Good fits for agents include .ai, .bot, .dev, .app, .xyz and plain .com. On StableDomains.net you can:
- check availability and price in one request (
GET /api/v1/search?q=myagent) - pay in USDC or USDT on Base, Ethereum, Arbitrum, Polygon, HyperEVM, BNB Chain or Solana, or gasless via x402
- let your agent register it itself over MCP or the REST API, with no card and no account form.
If ICANN .agent launches later, you can add it then. Your agent needs a working name now.

FAQ
Can I register a .agent domain today? Not a real ICANN one. .agent is applied for in ICANN's 2026 round but is not delegated, so no registrar can sell a working .agent domain yet.
Who applied for .agent? Applicants on ICANN's 2026 round list include Google (Charleston Road Registry), OpenAI, Meta Registry Holdings and Open Agent Registry. Several applicants means a contention set, which can take a long time to resolve.
Is a Handshake .agent name a real domain? No. Handshake names live outside the ICANN DNS root. Standard browsers, resolvers and mail servers don't resolve them without extra software or gateways.
When will .agent be available? There's no date. The objection period runs to 16 March 2027, and evaluation, contention and delegation follow after that. Past rounds took years.
